|Pastor Quang and his associate pastor were attacked by five men on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 18, near a Bible school that Pastor Quang founded in southern Vietnam. The attackers threw bricks and rocks at the pastors until they collapsed to the ground, and then kicked them repeatedly. Pastor Quang suffered broken ribs, a broken nose and injuries to his jaw and teeth. He has been arrested in the past because of his evangelical work and has faced violent attacks from both local authorities and hired thugs. Many church leaders and students affiliated with the Bible school have also been arrested, beaten and harassed. VOM Australia is helping pay the pastors’ medical expenses. No one has been arrested in connection with the attack.|
Pastor Nguyen Hong Quang was seriously injured when thugs attacked him and an associate pastor in broad daylight at the weekend.
The Mennonite pastor and his colleague were battered about the head with bricks and rocks on Sunday afternoon, about 500 metres from their Bible college to the north of Ho Chi Minh City. The attackers continued to kick the pastors after they had fallen to the ground.
Our contacts say that Pastor Quang, whose injuries are more severe than his associate, has a broken nose, broken ribs and facial injuries including damage to his teeth and jaw. He is said to be in ‘severe pain’. An associate ministry of Release is covering the cost of Pastor Quang’s hospital care.
Pastor Quang has been attacked several times before, though this is the most brutal assault to date. In November, police and ‘hired thugs’ attacked his Christian centre and detained several Christians for not having ID papers that officials had confiscated previously (Prayer Alert, November 18). Police have not yet made any arrests in connection with this latest incident.

Pray that God will heal Pastor Quang and his associate. Pray that their hope in the Lord will renew their strength (Isaiah 40:31).
Ask God to strengthen the faith of Pastor Quang’s congregation and students, so they will spread the gospel with new boldness. Pray that their opponents will come to know Christ.
