(Voice of the Persecuted-adapted) It can be overwhelming when learning of all of the suffering, and persecution of Christians in the world today. When the biggest request is prayer from those persecuted, how do we Pray? When you pray with your heart and soul before the Throne of God, He knows what you are asking. God knows your heart for the persecuted.
Here a some of the things that we hear prayer requests for, not for God to strike those who are persecuting, although that is quite Biblical and he said vengeance is mine I will repay! But also that God may forgive some and show them the Light of Christ. The saints ask for endurance, they ask for perseverance, they ask for courage, and strength to face the day. They ask for comfort, they ask that immediate needs be met.
Jesus said to pray for our persecutors and do them good and bless them fundamentally by sharing the gospel with them. If your enemy is thirsty give him to drink. One of Jesus’ last words on the cross, was “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” When Stephen was stoned his last words were “ Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.”
It’s not easy to forgive tormentors, and I believe it is only Biblical to forgive those who sin against you or persecute you when they repent (Matthew 18), because after all this is how God forgives us.
The key is that persecuted saints remain faithful to their Lord, do not deny him and obey him rather than men.
