Over 2,000 Women and Girls Abducted by Boko Haram since the Beginning of 2014-UPDATE

On April 14, 2015, Amnesty International released a report detailing the brutality of the Nigeria-based, radical Islamist group Boko Haram. The report estimated that more than 2,000 women and girls have been captured by the group since the beginning of 2014. Witnesses have reported that while some women are married off and forced into sexual servitude after they are abducted, others are trained as militants to carry out attacks on villages.

  • Pray that the 2,000 women and girls abducted by Boko Haram will be returned to their homes unharmed
  • Pray for the families of the abducted women to have peace during this ordeal
  • Pray for the release of the 219 girls who were also kidnapped by Boko Haram last year in Chibok, Nigeria

    Hundreds of Nigerian women who were rescued from the area of Boko Haram’s last strongholds in the Sambisa Forest are in desperate need of help. Christian women faced forced conversions to Islam, beatings, their husbands were murdered, and some were soon scheduled to be married off to Boko Haram fighters. Among the women being helped at the refugee camp in Yola, Nigeria in the northeast of the country, none of the girls from Chibok were identified.

      Nigerian military forces rescued another 234 women from the Sambisa Forest region in northern Nigeria. The area is thought to be the last remaining stronghold of Islamic terror group Boko Haram in the country. This news comes just days after 293 women and 160 women and children were rescued on back-to-back days earlier this week.
