Telahoon Nogose Kassa of Khartoum Bahri Evangelical Fellowship was detained in January after opposing government attempts to see off church property.
Pastors Kowa Shamaal and Hassan Abdelrahim were arrested in December for objecting to demolition of Sudan Church of Christ property.
Pray to keep these churches standing
Three churches in Khartoum were told this week that their buildings would be bulldozed by today. They remain standing…..for now.
Pray for our Christian family in Sudan, and especially these three congregations in the Hajj Yousef area of Sudan’s capital.
Officials served notice of the planned demolitions on Monday and announced the churches would be destroyed within 72 hours. The churches, which belong to the Baptist and Sudan Church of Christ denominations, are taking legal action to try to prevent the demolitions.
Meanwhile, three imprisoned pastors appeared in court in Khartoum yesterday: the charges against them are not yet known but they are expected to be prosecuted for ‘crimes against the state’.
Abdulmonem Abdumawla Issa Abdumawla and Hassan Abduraheem Kodi Taour have been detained since mid-December. Kowa Shamaal, detained at the same time, was released after three days but re-arrested on May 24. The date for the next hearing in the three pastors’ trial is set for August 14.
- Pray that God will intervene and save the three churches under threat of demolition in Khartoum.
- Pray that God’s peace and presence will be very real to Hassan, Kowa and Abdulmonem. Pray they will soon be acquitted and set free.
- Pray that His light will continue to shine in Sudan, despite officials’ attempts to limit religious freedoms severely. Pray for wisdom for pastors – a particular target for persecution.
