Prisoners of Faith Alert – January 2017
Your prayers made a real difference
According to Chinese Christian Cheng Jie and other believers imprisoned for their faith, your prayers, cards and letters of support had a significant impact and brought real encouragement not just to the prisoners themselves, but also to their families, in 2016.
She said: ‘…because of the encouragement from all over the world, it makes my faith strong. That is why I can go through my difficulties.’
Friends of Uzbek Christian Tohar Haydarov said: ‘We are thankful to everybody who prayed for him and sent letters to him while in prison.’
Click here or see below for an update on all the prisoners we profiled in 2016.
The number of Christians arrested, detained and imprisoned for their faith looks set to increase in 2017, particularly in countries such as China, Iran, Sudan and Uzbekistan.
In 2016, alongside the arrest of national church leaders and local Christians, we witnessed the detention of missionaries, aid workers and other Christian workers who wanted simply to share the gospel and bring practical help to God’s suffering church.
We hope to share more updates and information about Christians such as Petr Jasek (Sudan) and the American pastor Andrew Brunson (detained in Turkey) in the months ahead, but for now please be encouraged to ‘remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoner’ (Hebrews 13:3).
Remember them by praying for them
Remember them by sending cards of encouragement to them or their families
Remember them by writing to authorities or signing petitions on their behalf (where applicable)
Remember them by sharing their stories with your Christian friends   Thank you for supporting Prisoners of Faith.
