Kim Dong Chul
A Korean-American recently appearing on television in North Korean custody has been identified according to both Reuters and CNN as Christian pastor Kim Dong Chul, formerly of Fairfax, Virginia. The pastor, if confirmed, would be the second westerner to be held captive by the North Korean regime after Canadian pastor Hyeon-Soo Lim was detained in February of 2015 with a ten year sentence. According to Ma Young-ae, a North Korean defector working as a missionary in New York, Kim Dong Chul is in fact a Korean-American pastor whom she said informed church gatherings he was a missionary aiding North Koreans through medical aid via China.
- Pray for the swift and safe release of Pastor Kim Dong Chul
- Pray for the strength and courage of Christians in North Korea who must practice their faith
in secret because it’s too dangerous to meet with other believers
- Pray for the growing community of underground Christians in North Korea, numbering between 200,000 and 400,000, who continue to live out their faith despite the dangers
- Other expats still detained include: Lim Hyun-Soo (Canada-life imprisonment), Kim Gook-gi, Choi Chun-gil and Kim Jung Wook (all South Koreans and with little chance of leaving the country alive). Revelation 2:10. Please pray!
