Christian nurse challenges NHS after being sacked for sharing faith with patients.

Prayer Alert

Sarah’s case against the NHS Trust for unfair dismissal takes place on Thursday
Please pray for Sarah Kuteh as she appears at an Employment Tribunal sitting in Ashford, Kent, on Thursday.
Sarah is challenging her dismissal from Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust for ‘gross misconduct’.
Sarah, who has been a nurse for 15 years, was sacked in August 2016 after complaints were made about her discussing her faith with patients.
However, the conversations only came about because of a question on the pre-op assessment questionnaire which asks patients about their religion.

Only one official complaint

Out of the hundreds of patients who Sarah dealt with, only one official complaint and a few verbal complaints, which were noted down by nurses, were made.
Following a meeting with her boss in April, Sarah agreed that she would only discuss faith if a patient initiated the conversation.
She kept to her word.
But more complaints followed and Sarah was suspended, investigated and eventually sacked for gross misconduct. The Trust did not release to her copies of the complaints that were made before the investigation began and she was not allowed to call the patients to the hearing to investigate their claims.
The NHS Trust has also referred Sarah to the Nursing and Midwifery Council where she is facing disqualification proceedings.

Pray for Sarah

With the help of the Christian Legal Centre, Sarah is challenging the NHS Trust’s decision to sack her.
She will argue that it was disproportionate and very punitive, particularly because of the way that the disciplinary process was carried out.
Please pray for the Judge who hears Sarah’s case and for her legal team as they represent and support Sarah.
Please pray that her claim would be successful and that the NMC proceedings would be dropped so that Sarah can return to the job she loves.
